Tuna Kimchi Fried Rice

Tuna Kimchi Fried Rice

Kimchi fried rice or kimchi-bokkeum-bap (김치볶음밥) is a type of bokkeum-bap ("fried rice"), a popular dish in South Kore. Kimchi fried rice is made primarily with kimchi and rice, but you can also add other ingredients you have readily available such as: tuna, pork, or ham.

When making kimchi fried rice, it is best to use over-ripe kimchi as well as leftover rice that has been stored in the fridge. It is easy to make, especially given how common the ingredients are. Hope you enjoy this recipe!

How to make it

Ingredients: 1 cup of kimchi, 1 and 1/2 bowl of rice, 1/3 of a small onion, 2 green onions, 1t of sugar (optional), 1T of soy sauce, 1T sesame oil

Step 1 Preparing the ingredients

Slice the onion thinly and chop it again. Chop the scallions.

Step 2: Stir-frying

Add 2 tablespoons of cooking oil to the preheated pan. Add chopped onions and scallions.

Put a small can of tuna. If you don’t have it, you can skip. Stir-fry it well.

Add kimchi when it’s stir-fried. If the kimchi is too big, you can cut it with scissors and put it in.

When the ingredients are stir-fried to a certain extent, boil 1 tablespoon of soy sauce and mix.

Depending on your preference, you can add half a tablespoon of red pepper powder at this stage. Put in 1 and 1/2 bowl of rice. Stir-fry all ingredients over medium heat. Add a bit of pepper.

When all ingredients are well-fried, turn off the heat and add 1 tablespoon of sesame oil. Mix it well.

If you like to have it with a fried egg, put it on top.

Kimchi fried rice is great in the aspect that it uses common everyday ingredients, is easy to make, and to tie everything together, it tastes great! It's a dish that Koreans often eat. I hope you enjoy this dish as much as I do!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of kimchi
  • 1/3 of an onion
  • 2 scallions
  • a small can of tuna
  • 1 1/2 bowl of rice
  • 2T cooking oil
  • 1T sesame oil
  • 1 fried egg (optional)

Notes

  • If you make kimchi fried rice with green onion oil, it tastes better.
  • You can add ham or meat instead of tuna.
  • If you add a little soy sauce when stir-frying kimchi, it tastes much better.
  • If the kimchi is over ripe, you can add 1 teaspoon of sugar. I personally skipped adding sugar today.
  • If kimchi fried rice is too much for you to eat in one sitting, you can cool it down and put it in the refrigerator and reheat it.
